TomTom Points of Interest
« on: June 07, 2006, 10:09:45 am »
Right here is the TomTom Points of Interest (POI) file for Le Mans. It includes all the big Supermarkets, all the main campsites, all the main parking, Circuit Main Entrance and the place for Ticket Collection. I haven’t put on Arnage or Mulsanne parking areas because with all the road closures, its like a big one way system and they are well sign posted. These are  roughly where you want to be to gain access to your site etc, so if they are a few yards out don’t complain. For La Chappelle and Musee, I used the entrance at the top of Houx Annexe although some people have entered via the main entrance.

Download the folder from here

N.B. Please be careful and read then re-read the instructions. This is very easy to do but don’t blame me if you make a pigs arse of it. If your not sure what you are doing , ask someone who is. These all work on mine so should work on yours. I’ve tested them with the full maps and the Major Roads of Western Europe maps.

These won’t work on the following TomTom units unless they have the French map in.

TomTom Rider
TomTom One
TomTom Go 300

They will only work partially in the following units. (Unless it’s the French one) This is because these have a detailed map of GB and only the major roads of Europe. The locations are still shown but seem to be in the middle of nowhere. This is due to the detail of the Major Roads of Europe maps.

TomTom Go 500
TomTom Go 510

They will work fully in the following units

TomTom Go 700
TomTom Go 710
TomTom Go 910

Full info on each of these units is available here.

They will work on PDA systems if you have the full country map in. The TomTom ‘plus’ maps are GB and the Major Roads of Europe map.

To Install (Taken from www.pocketgpsworld.com)

Step 1. Download and unzip the POI file.

Step 2. Connect your TomTom GO to your PC
Connect your TomTom GO to your PC using the USB data cable. The USB cable is supplied with your TomTom GO product. Ensure that TomTom GO is powered using the AC adapter.

Your TomTom GO is now visible in "My Computer" as a "Removable Disk".

Step 3. Copy the POI files from your PC
Go to the directory on the local hard drive of your PC where you stored or downloaded the unzipped POI database files (.OV2 and optionally .BMP files)
Select and copy the POI database files.
You must copy the (.OV2 and .BMP) files - do NOT copy the folders.

Step 4. Copy the POI files to your TomTom GO
Go to "My Computer” on your PC;
Go to "Removable Disk";
Then go to the map directory, for example the folder "Great_Britain-Map"; and "paste" the POI files into this folder.

NB If you have a TomTom Go 700, with all of the maps of Western Europe in one place, then you use the "Western_Europe-Map" folder.

The POI files are now successfully copied to this folder. You are ready to use your new POIs on your TomTom GO.

Step 5. Display POIs on your TomTom GO
Finally, to enable POIs in your TomTom GO select them in your POI categories:

Change Preferences | Manage (or Maintain) POI | Enable / Disable POI
Select POI

They now are displayed on your GO screen in both 3D maps and 2D maps.
Even if you do not display POIs on screen, you can now "navigate to" your Poi’s, find POIs near your location, etc.

For maps which are on a memory card, I just use my card reader to do it.

Hope these work for you all. Please don't hesitate to inform me of any improvements or wrong places

Navman

Skorpio has kindly converted these to work on a Navman. These are available from here.

I'm not sure on the TomTom all in one's, but find out where your POI's (Points of Interest) are. Just go down the list and tick on the ones you want or don't want. They then should show up on you map.

They don't show on my list. I've had this before. Maybe I have too many POIs.

Tell you what, I'll RTFM.

Old topic I know but looking at my new tom tom Europe last night I couldn’t find the track on the POI at all – never mind other POI’s that I recognized! Is the above section a specially made POI at all for Le mans?

Strange, it works like a charm on my TomTom5!

This film should be played at high volume, so don't come complaining about it! And who the hell is Steve?

Other filetype I guess Robbo. Makes it a bit hard to convert.
