Fuel costs for genny?

We've been having our le mans meeting tonight via MSN, working out approximate costs.

We're not sure about the genny though, it's mainly to power our fridge, and maybe charge phones, cameras , laptops etc.

Bearing in mind we're there from Tuesday, how much roughly do you think fuel will be, for a 600w generator, I believe.

I have a 650w gennie and they recon a full tank (1 gal) will last between 6 - 8 hrs depending on the load.

But are you going to leave the gennie running all day?

According to this site - a 650w gen on full load will give 5.8hrs on tank full (4.5litres)

Have one myself, not run it that long (don't think its run more than that since I had it!),

So it's not really gonna be more than a few quid for fuel then... we won't have it on all the time.

Last year we used about four gallons in four and a half days. A gallon seemed to last about 8 hours on a low load. Would use more if you're draining the juice hard. Also I recommend you buy one of those large 5 gallon ex-MOD fuel cans, you know the khakhi green ones with a proper flip up spout. They're much safer than the plakky ones.

Strange you should mention these. I brought one for a fiver at a car boot last year. Went to fill it yesterdayand the asian gentleman at the service station told me that he didn't think he could allow me to fill it.
I told him that if it was good enough for The British Army it should be good enough for him.
After a bit of head scrtching on his part I asked him if I would be allowed to use it if it was green plastic with Halfrawds written on the side.
No promlem he said.
So I crossed the road to the Esso station and filled it no probs

Hard to tell Andy cos we were running 2.  I found the small one from you to be more efficient than expected so it is all we are taking this year

Hasn't the filling of fuel cans larger than 1 gallon been outlawed by the goverment after the fuel protests?
I would have thought if you have it in your boot they won't notice anyway.

That is what I thought, however the diesel ones are bigger, just black?

if your going by Euro Tunnel be very careful as they don't like any containers.

Know someone who had is car emptied and they found 2 jerry cans full, were not allowed to take them on.

Why not fill 'em up over here.  Even the old 4* is still available in some places.  French use anything (including plastic milk bottles!) and nobody cares.  Saves any hassles over crossing channel with fuel on board.

On a similar note, how much is a litre of tractor petrol in France these days?
