HELP - New York
« on: June 24, 2006, 08:22:15 pm »
I know this is an odd request, but as CA members have helped in the past.

Can anybody recommend a serviced appartment in New York (USA) - for end of Oct (4 Adlts + 3 Kids). I have tried the internet and by brain has been fried by the different web sites.

Not sure where they want to stay, some where near main area to be able to get around. Any recommendations for areas and also anything a must thing to see.

Oh, and unlike my trip to Le Mans this year, where I only brought a one way ticket on the ferry - which seemed normal to me.  We have got are tickets and they are returns.

 :-* :-* :-*

I could reel off a list which would include all the usual stuff you might expect to see and do in New York as could most people if they have been there.

My suggestion is to buy the Rough Guide to New York - I think its about a tenner from Ottakers - this covers eveything then you can plan from that. You have plenty of time from now until October.

Make sure you get to one of those typical New York Diners either for breakfast or lunch but not both on the same day!- I think there is quite a famous one which is highlighted in that book I have suggested.

OR .....

Statten ISland Ferry - beats the que for liberty island tour
Washington PArk, Grenwich Village on a saturday

Stay within a few block or either 8th Ave, 5th Ave from Spring Street to 110th and you are on the tube network really easily.

Cabs from JFK are expensive and with that luggage, 7 people your best doing a deal with Shuttle Bus firms. Its a $50 cab to manhatten island and you would need maybe 3 cabs......

Or the shuttle run at $15 a head. Try doing the Rock - The top of the rockafella centre, maybe a better view of the park and north manhatten, and the que is smaller than the empire state.

Macys is a cheap place to shop, but the other department stores on 5th avenue are over pricved. All the major brands have a shop in the city and a much cheaper, sometimes 50%, so  itsw worth looking about first. Most designer brands are on Union or Spring Street. Thats the 6 car on the tube from the east side.
Take life by the horns and live it.
