Beware Les Flics
« on: July 06, 2006, 01:51:56 am »
For all those headed to La Sarthe this weekend, the law is out already.

I have just returned from Dordogne, and came back via LM and the A28.

I saw two separate mobile radar traps on the A38, one just N of Alencon and the other a few miles S of where it joins the A13.

BEWARE.

Good to know, thanks for the warning Del.

One other reason for their presence is that Le Tour de France is in the region.

Careful, you may also find them in the service areas (Aires)!

Hi del

Yes, Wishy.  Got back at midnight last night.  Just wanted to get the warning out before I flopped out.

Not an uneventful trip, however.  Went on LDlines overnight thursday.  Boat circled outside Le Havre for 4 hours because the French fishermen had blockaded the port in some minor dispute.  Eventually got off the boat at 11.15 instead of 7.15.  Clogged it going down - cruising at 110-120, getting there (near Perigeux) in 6 hours. Picked up the van and stayed on a nice site in N Dordogne friday and sat nights.

A mile out of the site on sun morning, a tyre on the van blew out, and I didn't notice until I was running on the rim - the van was rock steady, running on a flat at 70!!  Got it back to the site on the spare from the car (same diam, same fixing studs, but a lot fatter - tyre was just rubbing the inside of the wheel arch).  Then had to wait till mon afternoon to get it fixed - sad really because it was only 33 degrees there.  Left tues morn and got back with no more aggro, apart from a very impressive thunder storm overnight in La Sarthe, and it was p*ssing with rain whilst driving home from Pompey.

I'm done with driving for a few days having done 1300 miles since friday.
