Just seen our newest member is 'SexyRussianGirl' I wonder what flavor of spam we can look forward to from him/her?

Is there a reason CA is getting spammed so much in the last few weeks?
Some people will tell you that slow is good - and it may be, on some days - but I am here to tell you that fast is better.

With a name like that, I hope she(?) isn't a spammer.

We had another couple of spammers early hours of this morning.  One porn the other a dodgy investment scam.  Glad to see the Gods sorry, Mods were on the ball and deleted them quickly.

On other forums the same story. Apparantly it's the new thing in spamming.

The increased level of membership authentication seems to be keeping out some.
However, please continue to 'report to moderator'.

Thanks Del, I deleted those two threads this morning.

Steve and I now get email notification when someone joins up. It seems to me that they create the account buit don't always use it immediately. So far, nothin in common - completely different IP addresses and ISPs - I know this stuff can be faked but this moderating lark is turning into a full time job!!

I guess someone who knows how this forum software works really needs to sit down and work out the best form of protection. There is only pne more level of sign up which seemed really onerous, but maybe that's the answer... I wisj I knew why we are suddenly being hit (maybe it's as simple as we just got onto someone's radar)

Could be that CA's profile was raised after the LM guide download, seems like the link was flashed around quite a bit

Not very likely, most of this spam stuff works automated and the download link was to my domain (www.lemanszone.de) und you had to flip to the foreword before reading a CA-URL.

Type ("Club Arnage" Forum) on Google and you get 92 hits.
Don't know where we are positioned if you type in "forum" But the more widely known the forum the more abuse it will recieve.

Anyone know how pistonheads handles spammers?

We beat them up virtually.

PH has a lot of moderators and things are jumped on very quickly if they are out of the ordinary.
I've come to believe that Le Mans is the centre of the universe.

I've done some research and there are three email domains ( i.e. @ mail.something) which have been responsible for a large proportiion of the spammers. I found also that I can ban, using wildcards. So they are banned.

Steve has also been promoted to Admin to assist with the timely removal of the scumbags. Congratulations Steve...

Two promotions in three months?

A metiororic rise through the ranks, keep this rate up and it will be Pope Stevus the first by this time next year.

as we know with rank comes not only privileges BUT ALSO responsibilities, moderators with the full powers at their disposal also need to act and conduct themselves in a particular way.

Well done Steve and we look forward to seeing you on the moderators campsite next year; MB. ;)
