All,

I shall be cycling to work on Friday this week (18th Aug) to raise money for Great Ormond Street Hospital and a looking for sponsorship.

As some of you are aware I live in Newbury Berkshire and work in Central London. I will cover the 70mile (100Km) ride and do the whole days work aswell.

I shall leave home at 3am hoping to arrive at the office for 7.30am.

BTW. I do not know the roads around London or on the way AND I hate cycling in cities!

Hopefully I can raise more money then the rest of my departement on their weight loss challenge (£250)

Blimey - respect to you Rick.  On Saturday I decided to take my "new" bike for a lil run along the local cycleway.   Was knackered before I got to the end of my street, and only managed 2 miles on the cycleway before turning around n heading home again!  I now realise that 6 days per annum commuting between Bleu and the hospitality of MB doesnt make much of a training schedule.

I cant remember, is there a tax advantage to donating online rather than giving you the cash?

My MB buddie Mark's wife booked a family cycling holiday in the Netherlands for their main gig last year. His training consisted solely of too much whisky, too many fags, and 6 times a day (if he was lucky) round the clump of trees in MB... He didn't last well lin Holland!

Ok Rick like me you’re a "little" over your racing weight but 100km should be just a warm up, don’t get me wrong I think it's great you doing the ride. What sort of time? I would think about 3.5 hours was reasonable but I don’t know the profile of the route.

My fastest for the round the Isle of Wight Time trial (which I won 3 years in a row) which is hilly was 3hours 8 minutes.

You were in your time a much better climber than me and you are or were a record holder if I remember correctly, but weight and age have caught up with me and I’m about 25 kg over my best racing weight….  All the best and we should get out on the bikes next year in France if we have the chance how about a one lap ride around the full circuit?

Well I think we should do 3 laps of the circuit and call it the 24 miles of Le Mans! We could use all the existing public road then take the old track through Maison Blanche and up past the grandstands, under the bypass and turn right then turn right again at Carrefour Street and then rejoin at Tertre Rouge!

Sounds like a good idea (this from the woman who wouldn't recognise her own bike in a line-up!).

Using all track would be good but I don't think the ACO will allow.

OK Last post before the off! Thanks to all those who have sponsored me, there is still time if you haven't.

I shall ride all the way on the A4 as it does have streetlights and is wider than the B-Roads. Easier to navigate too. Will logon tomorrow at work and let you all know how it went!
