BOAC 1000k Brands 1970.

The race that legends are made of.

As a 5 year old I am pleased to say I was there, Pedro was in a class of his own!

BOAC 1000k Brands 1970

I was there too.  The previous night there was a Deep Purple concert at the Central Hall Chatham.  I think it was a mixture of both, but my ears rang for another 4 days.

Great stuff!  I don't think this one has been posted (I may of course be wrong) but this is one really is topping stuff.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DulNn2tlTFs

Mike Hawthorn in a Jaguar D Type in 1956 pre-race driving a lap of the track and commentating - pre-race including remarks about "typical french" relating to various random cars, pedestrians and cyclists encountered around the track.  Epic stuff.  Narrow roads.  Lots of trees.  No Armco anywhere.  But the Stella bar and Hunaudieres are still there........ I reckon this is a clip from the film "La Ronde Infernale" - now out on DVD from Duke.

Steve - you may well be right, but I can'r remember exactly (and my videos are in the loft at the moment, I just don't recall seeing that one.  The first Hawthorn one is just brilliant though - talk about in period.  And of course there is the Standard Motor Co film of the 1955 race, focussing on the TRs and Jaguars.  Very in period too.  Clipped BBC accents and all that.

Plus, there's the Martini Porsche winner from '77 here, which I hadn't seen before

I worked as a radiographer for about 18 months on the island, including the TT in 1997. A busy fortnight. 14 days, 7 full nights work, and 7 nights in Bushys (Knocked down now) followed by a chest infection so bad I was nearly hospitalised.

Its interesting that the safety features had improved by the time of the GT40 - they were putting straw bales in front of the trees down the Mulsane
