Steve I have stayed in Gace a couple of times on the Sunday night but never found a decent restaurant, any recommendations? Hope you don't mind me asking.

I've been well fed (gourmet? Non!) at Hotel Normandie in the little street that leads up to the town square, (name?) A bar avec Le Pression and large enough television indoors if you need to play "catch up" with Canadian GP and Herr Shovelface... Or World Cup footie Or etcetera! And good proper food... (Shovelface? Dont ask, s'my mate Nick. Daft as "bird" but nowhere near as gorgeous sorry Nick, but a man has to do what a man has to do) comfy beds too

Monkey We've only ever stopped there for une pression rapide et une voyage au supermarche. Never done the restaurant thing although I do recall seeing a couple of nice looking bars/ restaurants on the square. We should start the "Great Bars amd Restaurants en Route" thread - a sort of CA Michelin Guide! Steve

I have stayed at the Normandie a few times and can confirm that the food is most certainly NOT gourmet but they do make the effort and the atmosphere is good. There is usually a 'Le Mans buffet' on the Sunday evening (I think the restaurant is usually closed on a Sunday). They are very welcoming to Le Mans travellers... A couple of years ago we stopped here on the way down and spent quite a few hours, and many beers, discussing old motors with the chef, or was it the waiter, or was it the... well he worked there anyway. After a while he mentioned that he had an old convertible Peugeot in the basement which seemed a strange place to keep a car but he very proudly showed us. Very nice it was too. But returning to Monkey's original question... Despite staying in Gace on a numer of occassions have yet to find a decent restaurant...

We stopped in Rouen a couple of years ago on the Sunday night, and for vairous reasons didnt get out for food untill midnight, but was amazed to find a really good and reasonable resturant facing that Cathedral.

Or Spain. Anywhere in fact except in France. Restaurant food throughout France is generally ghastly unless you are prepared to pay through the nose. It's like the food generally was in the UK thirty years ago. Crap.
