On the subject of showers, solar water heating can clearly work a treat in France, so for anyone with enough space could also pack a single panel radiator painted black to act as passive collector. These are probably available for free in a skip in the next street.

It even works up here in Newcastle - admitedly last summer was quite hot occasionally!

Heres hoping there isn't another water shortage in France this year!

We've got the Coleman version of this and I've just ordered the maplins one as well.

They work well - we've given up queuing for showers and just shower by the tent (in our swimming cossies!).

We had a home made version of one of these last year.

It worked a treat for 2 days....

It then went pop, catching fire, semi destroying the wooden box in which it was housed, and proceeded to have a go at the gazebo next to it....

we are now a drill and a wooden box down...

Dad...Maplins is Opposite richer sounds in reading...saves blowing up another drill...especially given that my drill is the only one we have left  ::)

I think you'll find they have moved to the Brunel Bussiness Park or what ever it's call Near PC World on Rose Kiln Lane.

Mine hasn't arrived yet but the the thread on the Coleman one means that you could attach the submirsible pump to a five litre collapsible (sp?) water container.  Fill the container with warm water, attach the shower, turn it upside down on the BBQ stand and voila a shower!

Alternatively we use the big stockpot to boil water, top it up with cold and lob the pump in it!

We have taken a hand shower for the last few years.  Have a double sized toilet tent, paddling pool inside, and hey presto instant private shower cubicle.

Our shower is basically one of those large ferti;iser sprayers, and you pump it up and then use a showerhead instead of the noozle.  Works a treat!  Mind you this Maplins option will take up less space in the car!

Humm, the pump was used to pull the water up from a pair of Lorry innertubes which acted as solar heaters. However, by midday a few meters of spare hose pipe located on the top of SPS's trailer  absorbed enough heat to provide a nice warm shower and the tap pressure was enough to give a nice spray through the hanging basket adjustable spray head (from Robert Dyas) so we might just go with that again this year.

i find the shower in my hotel room in rouen on sunday night to be very pleasant. When you get to LM saturday sunrise you can last till sunday night. My time in LM is far to precious to waste with keeping clean, i have drinking, poker, eating, drinking, finding arses etc to do.

Quite, Dave.  I've been told there are some reasonable showers in some places round the circuit too but have never tried one out myself.  This may of course account for the increasingly large space around me as the weekend goes on....

Those of us who are there for the week really do owe it to others to try to make a bit of an effort  ;D

Actually I'm not bothered about washing for the week - I'm quite happy to stay grubby but it is very nice to be able to cool off a bit when it's hot and in the absence of a pool then the shower (and the misting system we copied from the PC Pirates) helps.
