Smoking Ban in France
« on: March 03, 2007, 05:39:52 pm »

Question for Termie really.

You state in the CA Guide that there will be a ban on smoking in public places 'in the Spring'.

Any further clarification on this - when?  where?

I have to admit that I thought that France would be about the last place on the planet to bring in such a law.  Perhaps the French will react as I heard the people in Brussells reacted - ordered two beers (à la Mr McQueen) and carried on smoking!

Smoking is now banned in all enclosed public places in France.  There is an exception at the moment for bars and tabacs until 1st January 2008.  How this will work at LM remains a mystery.  For instance, the cafe in the shopping centre in LM which used to have a smoking area now does not - although it sells alcoholic drinks.  So I'm left to wonder which category, say, the bar/cafe in the ACO stand falls into.  We may not know until race week.  The stands etc should be fine as they are outdoors.

I read someplace that the European Commissioners instigated a ban in their building then within days broke it, wholesale.

One rule for them...
