The Return of the Legend
« on: July 20, 2007, 01:50:45 pm »
For one race only...

Murray Walker will commentate for Radio 5 Live on the Grand Prix at the weekend.

Do yourself a favour. Sit back, open a can of beer, crank the radio up, turn the TV sound off, and step back in time for what will likely be one of the last opportunities you'll get to hear the great man commentate...Who cares that the race will be a procession - at least there's someone who's knowledgable and HUGELY enthusiastic commentating.

Legendary....

Maybe this can be the start of the "bring back murray" campaign....?

My local cinema is actually showing the European GP live at the cinema on the big screen in  Hi Definition .With Dolby 5.1 surround sound.

Not sure i would want to pay £6 to watch a procession when i could watch it at home and fall asleep on the couch for free !

Turned off the TV sound and put on the radio. Wasn't Muzza terrific? His first commentary since 2001 and it just flowed. The exitment came across far better than with the wretched James Allen. Stop the Cock. Bring back Murray!
I wouldn't sit there if I were you, it's still a bit wet.

I too listened to his Murrayship whilst driving (or should I say crawling) down the M1 yesterday afternoon. Even my girlfriend who couldn't care less about F1 and sports on the radio in general, was happy to hear his screaches once again.
I read his autobiography and he coimes across as such a nice guy. Hopefully it won't be a one off.
If I was you, I wouldn't start from here

There's a first,  ;) but it's pretty indisputable IMO.

I later put the golf on to listen to the dulcet tones of Peter Alliss, another old stager and a complete master of his craft!

Ah, now there's dulcet tones indeed for you lad, just like it was when listening to Brian Johnston on the cricket - summers have never been the same..... :(

Just a great shame that I didn't spot this thread until after the GP - listening to Murray again instead of the present wretch would have been great, particularly in a race where stuff actually happened.

He also did a 606 F1 phone in on Saturday night which made pretty good listening too.
