I'm not sure it would be a good idea to go there deliberately to see it at this stage. A large crowd of spectators would render the first test flight impossible, because it would legally become a display - something that an aircraft without a Permit to Fly could not carry out.

How does it work, when Concorde first took off at Filton, my Dad was there and loads of other people. He even has pics and a super 8 film of it, (I'm sure I have seen pics of it.). Actually when the A380 took off in France, everyone was watching (it was on TV).

So was this a test flight (to earn its flight certificate) or a display?

Neil, ignoring the political imperatives involved with Concorde (which was considered by many commentators as a huge white elephant at the time) and meant garnering public support was seen as important, I reckon the CAA have probably tightened the rules somewhat from the days of Trubshaw in 1969. Everything was bristling moustaches and B&W in those days!

Peter, as you well know, the CAA are absolute judge jury and executioner in such matters. They can, and do, make up the rules as they go along. The Trust Chairman Air Chief Marshal Sir Michael Knight KCB AFC FRAeS is not, I'd wager a pound, well known as someone to issue misleading press releases just for a laugh. So I think we have to take at face value what the executive management of TVOC say. Personally, I'd rather take their word on what the CAA told the Trust over the comments of a bunch of bitter know-it-all amateurs on some internet forum.

True forgot about that, oh the good ol days with out H & S and no win/no fee solicitors (sorry for any members out there)

Quick question what year did the world go from being Black and white to be full colour?  Grin

Went  to an open day at Filton years ago, and was told then that they would never make any money out of Concorde, but it was all the skills, machines, and materials when Concorde was design that would make the money. Not sure how they cost that!

On the subject of H&S gone mad- i've just been to my local MOT station. They have just had a H&S hitler round who has made them put up a 'caution, vehicles' sign above the door! Pretty blinking obvious you would have thought!

XH 558 is moving onto a key part of its restoration over the next few days when its engines will be run for the first time in about five years.  The aircraft is back on its undercarriage and hopefully the next stage of its restoration will proceed without to much difficulty.

Over the weekend a NOTAM was released indicating test flying will cover the period from 20th August to 7th September, if you're around the area you may well see the Tin Triangle flying. Cool

I saw my last Vulcan at Kemble when I worked there in 88 and if you dont see it flying you will hear it......

OK -Here's one to work out.

I saw the offical last flight of the Vulcan at Biggin Hill air show, which was about 1980/81, before the M25 was open. Travel there in my blue Herald with the roof down (how long have owned it !).

They were saved because of the Fauklands war, so I was led to believe

All can remember was Vulan doing a low and slow past, pulled up and then put on the after burner for extra speed (if thats what is for).  The noise was great.

Was anybody else there? or know which model it was.

Can't remember the year but saw a full display at Pompey from ther Round Tower.

The Vulcan came in a ZERO feet through the harbour entrance and then did a fantastic 10min display.

The view and noise was to say the incredibly.

Mr Zarse, its so interesting how you try to down talk and bluff with the mention of an name that may have some gravitas associated with it because it has a monica.  You'd fit right in down here in Lymington at the Royal with the other toffs, who spend mostly all day doing the same thing.

No, the forum I refer to is one with professional aviation types both civil and military with active aviation connections.

with regard to 558 the most i would guess you would see is a take off and a landing hardly a display in any estimation.  unless you count the invited audience of joe public and the international press which has already passed CAA scrutiny.

Hay Ho.

Peter, if you're referring to PPrune then a good number of the folk on the Vulcan thread are IMO a bunch of embittered barrack room lawyers. That they may have worked somewhere in the industry at some point in the past does not excuse their rudeness. Nor do I believe they know better than the professionals on the TVOC team. Indeed, if they were actually any use (other than as walking windsocks) they'd actually be on the team. I'm not trying to bluff anyone with names or monocles, it's just that Michael Knight seems to me to be a man of reasonable integrity. Unless, of course, you know different?
