2008 Nürburgring 24 hours

Now that the date for this has been announced (24/25 May) Team Muz have a cunning plan to go along, has anyone on here been who could advise the drill on camping etc?

There appears to be a good forum at http://web.sportresult.com/sports/24h/forum/default.asp which could be useful if I could speak German.  But I can't

No, seriously. Late May seems a better choice than during "that other" 24H race.
Werner can probably help you with most of it, he'll be a lot faster in translating that I will (even though my German ain't all that bad).

Man behaving badly was there last edition. The crowd is slightly less sofiticated then you would find at lemans. Lots of Opel (Vauchall) Manta's and german mullets

Muz, it isn't easy trying to translate that forum, I've tried many times!
Camping is just pay on the gate. We arrived on Friday lunchtime in 2007 and got a place amongst the trees with a view of the track without any problems. We were camped up at Metzgesfeld, which is quite a way from the GP circuit so a bit less busy. There are also loads of hotels in the area as another option.

Thanks for that - If there's a chance of being ok just turning up then that's cool, what we don't want to do is leave it until the last minute then realise we should have booked 12 months in advance, Le Mans style!

I think, in general, the event does not attract such a big crowd as Le Mans, so you should be OK just turning up, a bit like Spa 24.

I camped at the RIng a couple of times, not sure of the campsite name but it was a good location (short walk to circuit). They had a funny way of charging IIRC, which meant that you paid for a whole day for every day, incl departure day. I think it was HGB who suggested the site, he may be able to help with the name. DfH were there also.

Suggestions for that would be useful so we know roughly where we are headed.  So far we've got to France on the Friday, thanks Dobbo!

There is a campsite at Metzgesfeld but it isn't marked on the map for some reason (the access road is just to the west of the road that leads up to Wehrseifen). I think that Metzgesfeld and Adenauer Forst are your best bets for a late arrival simply because they are the most remote. Both excellent sites (lets face it there isn't a boring piece of track anywhere at the Ring!) and there are supermarkets, bars, restaurants etc a short drive away in Breidscheid or Adenau.

From the main roads the campsites are signposted but the signs are small so you have to keep your eyes peeled!

Smokie is correct re the cost. You pay for how many days each person in the car will be staying and they give you a wristband that lets you back in in the car (nothing to stop anybody walking in and out of the campsite). From each campsite you can walk round the track to the next one along, the campsites double up as spectator areas.

Pretty sure it was Camping Mullenbach we were at (bottom left side of track). Camp at the top of the field then it's just a short walk past the bar then across a road to the track.

I think Mullenbach is the 'proper' campsite with showers and everything??? Very posh
