This has been discussed on several other forums and I think there is a suspcion that this email is not genuine and to an extent is based on chinese whispers.

There is also a question over the type approval for this equipment.  The theory being that the cameras are only type approved to work when the temporary limit is in force.  This would explain the difficulty in finding anyone who has been cameraed travelling at speed at derestricted times.  Although the M25 is not a current haunt of mine, I used to come round that section regularly late at night and never received any speeding tickets!

Simple solution... dont go too fast!
Plenty of time for that in June on those lovely French back roads where the Boys in Bleu wont be waiting with a speed gun.!

This was reported in Motorcycle News last week and came from the Highways Agency.

To add speed, just add lightness.

So everyone doing >79mph is looking at getting a ticket.....even if the cameras are now digital.......I suspect that is a shed load of tickets to process every hour.

The system will not be able to handle it.......?

If it is true it might be the final push the UK public need to oust the current government........I doubt it though.

I just don't believe it.  The Highways Agency have a vested interest of course in implying its true and not denying it!

Have the Highways Agency issued a press release confirming this news or did they merely comment on something Motorcycle News presented to them?

Now if anyone has the time and energy to go through it all the type approval for cameras can be found here http://police.homeoffice.gov.uk/news-and-publications/publication/operational-policing/approved-speed-meters/

Having looked at it further thats a red herring as all it does is confirm when the camera was approved, unless the system on the M25 is different!

This is all there was. Whether there is any truth in it, who knows, we'll be the first to find out I guess.

Thanks for that.  I get the impression that the cameras are going digital, and that bit is believable.

The bit I don;t believe is the lower action limit for when no variable limit is showing, and that article doesn't say the Highways Agency confirmed thats the case.  After all on Pistonheads there have been requests for anyone who has received a NIP following a flash from those cameras when no variable limit was showing, and so far no one has owned up to receiving one.

Anyway we'll see what happens!

I've searched their website and can't find anything.

http://www.highways.gov.uk/

I'll ask a few of my pals on M25 works to see if they know.
