Turner Classic Movies : The Green Helmet
« on: March 28, 2008, 10:44:10 am »
No, not a nasty disease!

The Green Helmet is going out on TCM (Sky channel 319) at 05.00 on Monday 31st March.
Although this is not a great movie by any means, it contains contemporary footage of LM and Sebring.  I've been trying to get a copy of this for years, but it's unavailable on DVD or video.

Does anybody get this channel and can they record it for me please?  Of course, I will pay all costs etc.

Thanks guys and gals. :)

Marvelous - thanks very much.  I can either send you some cash or we can settle up/exchange in June.  I'm not exactly in a hurry as I've waiting long enough already. :)

That looks worth recording, but I'm not getting up at 5am.

I've been struggling with video editing software, so I must record more films so I can take the adverts out, if I can find out how

Also  on Friday, April 18, 1:05, not that I'll be in.

Stars (amongst others) Sydney James

The best piece of kit I've ever bought, Lorry, is the DVD recorder with hard drive.  Editing out the ads is a real doddle, then it takes about 3 minutes to dub onto a DVD.  The snag in this case is that I can only get non subscription channels here.

It stars Sydney James and Jack Brabham! What's not to like?  ;D
I wouldn't sit there if I were you, it's still a bit wet.

That may be a better option for Deb as TCM is usually broadcast films  in the original format and sometimes has a large margin top and bottom plus advert breaks.

If anybody knows how to copy DVDs then that's fine - but my experience is that bought ones tend to have copy-protection and thus I've never managed this myself.  However, a recording off the telly, I can edit, no probs.  I'm open to suggestions though!

Well I've never tried but I think it's possible with the necessary recorder/player. If you do want to try just let me know.

I'm not sure a US DVD will work in the UK.  To start with there's the Region 1&2 issue, NTSC or PAL is usually marked on DVDs, and the 525 v 625 line format may cause problems.  Its far simpler to get round copywrite protection.  Talking of which, this is why you have to give Sky an English address if you're going to use it abroad

The DVD has appeared at http://www.raremoviesuk.co.uk/the-green-helmet-dvd-1961-bill-travers-sid-james-90-p.asp
at 8 quid.  There are loads of old 1950s movies on the site too, including a colour version of "The Longest Day", which is famous for being black and white :o ???
