Last night in the pub we were dicussing a film that none of us could remember the title of. I know that you won't let me down. We think the film was made in the late 60s or early 70s
The plot.
A 19th century Dandy is giving the Wife or Daughter (can't remember which) of a high ranking navel officer a portion. He is caught out and bounced out into the gutter and left unconcious. He is picked up by a press gang and wakes up on a navel vessel at sea. The film follows his adventures including a flogging for threatening an officer. Due to him being an educated man he compiles a list of reforms to present to the Admiralty hoping to improve the conditions of the common sailor of that time. This led to a revolt and rhe ideas were eventually adopted and Jolly Jack Tar was a much happier sailor.
I seem to remember that the part about the reforms was based on an actual event but the rest was poetic licence.
