Not sure if they all operate the same policy but Barclays need to be notified if you plan on using your debit card abroad.
Mine wouldnt work in Germany and nor would Andy Z's.

The Barclays number is 08700104503.... expect to wait about 6 hours to get through Angry

If you resent paying through the nose to call 0870 numbers, and I do, the number for Barclays is apparently 01604 254689

There is a database at www.saynoto0870.com

Nice one Smokie

I always use the number on the back of the card that they give you if you are calling from abroad.  This is a proper area number on most issuers.

I hate paying for the 0800 free or 0870 local rate calls.

I had no problems in France last year - Cooperative Bank

But when I was in Dubai last week the little fekkers would not work, until I made a VERY expensive 10 minute phone call to the bank.

I was then informed that we should always inform our bank of any travel.  Turns out that the UAE is a blackspot for card fraud  Huh

How ironic, I was in Dubai last week too and my Nationwide card refsued to allow me to take cash out. It would however work for purchases using Chip and Pin  Undecided

Ironically, my Barclays card did work at cashpoints!

So far I haven't had problems Touch head. When I ran my bank last year they told me no need to inform us as the chip and pin is secure (yeh right!) then 2 weeks after I got back the main account card had been compromised - B******Ds Angry

My personal Barclays debit wouldn't work until I'd made the fabled ten minute phone call. However my business debit worked fine, I now just have to explain to my accountant why there's camping in Germany charged to the business  Angry

You can do it online if you're registered for online banking :O)

I'm with Barclays too and only stumbled across the feature completely by accident just ahead of a trip to one of our LM possee's in Spain last year .. nice of them to let us know! Sure they did but it was probably buried somewhere amongst a ton of uselss spiel in a snail mail!

Banks .. bless 'em ;O)
