Silverstone 1000KM - Septemeber 2009

As a consolation tonot being able to get to the race this year, I think I will be attending the above.
I know a few of you folks went last year, how did you rate it.

I think I'll be bringing Nobby Jnr and we are going to camp. Any recommendations as to which campsite to use?
Pressumably, they won't all be open for this race, but of the choice, which is recommended?

Whittlebury Hall seems to be the place to go Nigel. But are you sure Nobby junior is ready for the CA campsite experience?

Well Bob, it's a good question, that's for certain.
He keeps asking when he can come to Le Mans with me. I told him "when you can stay up all night, walk for 2 hours without asking to be carried and have a taste for beer"
I think he's cracked all of those now...............he's 5.

So, I said we would have a practice at Silverstone, before I take him to Le Mans.

Boundless energy, a love for fast cars and noise and an affinity for stripping off in public. Is he a Zarse?????

Yes it is, but don't believe their stated "5 minute walk to the track". You won't even be half way then.

I don't know how old Nobby Junior is, but my Harrison was 7 when I took him to S'stone, and I believe JDS's boy was about 5 that same LMS race. There should not be a problem with that, except for when it's really cold like 2 years ago - take extra blankets for the kid!

We'll be camping, so extra blankets are a must - good point.

In 2005 we stayed on the infield, far better than WH - but the LMS people don't do that no more :-\
I think all here at CA opted for WH in '07 and '08, and will most probably do that again. Most parts of the site are a bit slopy, but that will only contribute to how good your own bed feels at home upon return! ;)

Had a great time there last year, combined with the beer festival in Basingstoke on fridaynight. Worst is, that same festival is again the same weekend as the LMS this year!

So might have to do that awfull combination again this year....

But the weather was better at Whittlebury Hall Paddy  ::)

I'd endorse Paddy's comment on the '5 mins' - they missed a '1' out in front.

If the situation is the same as the last 2 years, WH is the ONLY site available - within walking distance anyway.

Whittlebury is not a bad site apart from the walk to the track.....if you do the Le Mans walk it is about 15mins.

Just beware the beer on the site it can be overpowering ,as last year I think I peaked at about 2100hrs on Saturday ;D

I had the call of nature and after,I somehow managed to end up in my tent before the festivities finished............bizarrre :o

No, their website says it offers camping for all major events at Silverstone including those listed above. The 1000kms is on their motorsports calendar.  ;)
