On what will be anything other than a quiet Saturday night in January I will be shaving my head - right down to full on cue ball - to raise money for cancer research.
The event will take place on the evening of 28 January at the Stag & Hounds pub in Binfield (near Bracknell). All are welcome to come and watch, laugh at / with me, and join me for a few beers. Of course I'll also be after your money as well.
To sponsor me now please visit my fund-raising website http://www.justgiving.com/Doris
Cheers

Will you try for the authetic look of partial hairloss as opposed to complete baldness?
I remeber one of my work mates did the same thing for 10 shillings (that's 50p for you young'ens) In those days 10 bob would pay for a very good evening out and extra 'alf crown for the eye brows.
His girlfriend dumped him that night, but it didn't matter as he the sympathy vote kicked in.
Well done Doris a worthy cause, you just never know when it will affect you!
-
I thought most people in Bracknell had shaved heads anyway, but not in Binfield.
I suppose I out to donate a few bob, and I'll double it if I haven't quit the fags by 28 Jan. I'll need to see pictures
-

Your wish is my command. :)

Lorry, I quit the fags three weeks ago, after a very happy 27 year relationship with tobacco. Honestly, the thought of stopping was marginally worse than the actual process. I don't recommend giving up over Xmas, what with all the boozing etc but early jan would be a good time to put the date in your diary.
Having said that, I'm going skiing for a week over crimbo with no less a luminary than The Gimp, who smokes more than the average laboratory beagle. I'm sure he's determined to get me started again! It will be a test!
Doris, I will bung you some cash next week.

Where are you going Andy, anywhere near Kitzbullhe?
-
Yes, not too far, we're in Mayrhofen. Always found the snow is a bit dodge in Kitsbuhl that time of year, but would love to ski the Hahnekamm again. Maybe we should meet up somehow.
-
Sounds good, maybe ther is transport from both resorts to somwhere inbetween. We can discuss on the 16th.
-
OK will do. We are going out on Xmas eve back NY eve. You might want to check the map but from memory if you go south out of Kitz and head for Mittersill or somewhere you then turn right onto the Gerlos Pass. There must be somewhere along there...
If not, we can rent a car for the day and get up the Hahnenkamm. Just gotta do that Eagles jump thingy.

Your guess is as good as mine about people in Bracknell. I avoid the place as much as possible. Ghastly!
Pictures shouldn't be a problem. A mate of mine has said he'll film the whole thing for posterity, and I'm sure other friends will take photos as well.
Andy is right about giving up fags. Dead easy if you really want to do it. I gave up in January (not because of a resolution, but because one day I had such a bad hangover I couldn't face having a smoke). After surviving one day without them I figured I could go without for good.

Giving up is easy. The trouble is that starting again is even easier, especially in a field in France

Agreed. For years I wouldn't smoke apart from that one week, and inevitably that lead to a full on habit.
-
Giving up smoking wasn't easy, I lived up to it for nearly a year. But once stopped it was pretty easy on me. Nowardays the no smoking-signs are the only things that remind me of my bad habit. Even in that field in France I wouldn't dare to smoke a cigarette, too scared to loose it and having to start all over again. Roy can smoke for the LM-week and then quit again, :jealous: ;)
Anyway, best of luck with your charity, you can borrow my hat in France if needed :)

Doris, is it right? I'm led to believe there may be a mystery barber.

Could be.... ;)
-
Doris, is it right? I'm led to believe there may be a mystery barber.
Actually this may even be a mystery to me as a certain Mr Chenet can't make it on the 28th. Something to do with a dinner party or some such nonsense.
Will have to find another volunteer or two or three to chop my locks before the shave. Anyone?
-
Would have been pleased to have a good hack for such a noble act and for a very deserving cause - but it looks like we will be away that weekend. Well done :o
-
Well don't ask me to volunteer - last time I shaved was 30 years ago, but I do have a 30 year old Phillishave in mint condition which may have to appear in the antique section of ebay one day.
-
Hi Doris
Very noble act.
Put me down for a tenner which I can let you have at Sebring if you like as I think I read that you are going, if this is incorrect let me know.
Thanks for the reply ref the Classic.

I could always call in on Friday and start the trim then?? ;)
I'm sure it would look far funnier if the shaving was done by a certain Gimp Zarse anyway!! What would Binfield make of it!? :o

I'm not sure Binfield is quite ready for Gimp Zarse. Although there will be a Hen party up in the restaurant that night. They might be able to find some use for him. ::)

The question is though, is the Gimp ready for Binfield? (http://dfh.vandijkonline.net/images/smiles/icon_lol.gif)

Yes Paddy, I beleive he is. He's shaved his pubis in readiness and had a new Prince Albert fitted, to go along with the other two dozen piercings in his old chap. Don't stand next to him when he goes for a wee though.

You'll have fun getting him to India for the cricket..............the metal detectors will go ballistic!! ;)

Oh dear, I will have to warn the missus she thinks she is accompaning me to a sedate charity fund raising event ;)
-
Bob,
It's good to hear you've organised a driver to take you home so you won't end up spending the night sleeping in a chair somewhere with only a flag or other useless piece of fabric to keep you warm worrying whether the cats will be alright. ;)
D
-
You're never gonna let me forget that are you
-
That depends on:
A - How nicely you ask
B - How much vodka you bribe me with
;D
-
Right then. With just 13 days until the hair is gone I thought I'd let you all know how the fund raising has been going.
Without really ramming this down anyones throats (I've still to badger the people at the office) I've managed to raise somewhere in the region of 1.4k. To be added to that figure is what is in the collection boxes on the bar at the pub, whatever family and friends down under sponsor me, and obviously whatever I can raise between now and the night in question.
All in all I'm still hoping to raise somewhere near 5k and I don't think it's an impossibility.
Those of you who are hoping to come and witness the event first hand - I look forward to seeing you there. Directions to the pub to follow soon.

I've been called worse.
Anyway, if being called a bag will get me more sponsors then I'll let it go this one time. ;)
Found out last night that another friend has been diagnosed with this ba$tard disease. :(

So, who is gonna be there, apart from the star of the show herself?
-
So you are going to be there. Afraid I won't be, but expect the boys in blue to turn up over the Tropicoma/Ebay pyramid scam.
-
I'm hoping to get there for a while. Lots else going on this weekend but should be able to make an appearance. If you are going to be there Bob, I will bring the DVDs rather than post (they are sitting here waiting for me to get time to go to the Post Office).
Do we have a time for the main event?

Yeh, I'll be there with Mrs BOB U as driver (that makes a nice change) so best behaviour please folks.
-
Mrs IRW and I should be able to come along to witness such a valiant and comendable sacrifice (and ensure I behave myself :-\)
-
Sorry Doris, unable to come and support your sacrifice, ill, donation made though.
Hope you have a good evening, it's a brilliant cause raising money to defeat a number of horrible illness', which directly or indirectly will effect most of us at some time.
Very well done!

Further details and directions as promised...
Kick off: 9.30pm
I will be having the majority of the length cut off before I am attacked with clippers. If anyone wants to participate in the cutting session there will be a nominal charge of £2.00 for the privelage.
Location: Stag and Hounds, Forest Road, Binfield, RG42 4HA.
Ph 01344 483 553
http://www.multimap.com/map/browse.cgi?client=public&search_result=&db=pc&cidr_client=none&lang=&keepicon=true&pc=RG424HA&advanced=&client=public&addr2=&quicksearch=rg42+4ha&addr3=&addr1=
Please be aware that the circle is in the wrong place on this map! The pub is actually in the middle of the green where the road forks.
Directions from the M4:
Take Junction 10 (Reading and Bracknell) and join the A329 towards Bracknell.
Come off at the Binfield / Wokingham junction (Coppid Beech round-a-bout) and take the first exit towards Binfield.
Go straight over the next round-a-bout.
At the lights go straight through the first set and then left at the second set immediately after the first.
Follow this road to a mini round-a-bout (if you're in the right place a pub called the Royal Standard will be on your right)
Turn right at this round-a-bout and follow the road down the hill.
The Stag will be on your left.
If you get to Wyevale garden centre and go over a hump back bridge then you've gone too far.
Directions from the M3:
Take Junction 3 for Bracknell. At the round-a-bout at the top of the slip road take the third exit onto the A322 towards Bagshot and Bracknell.
Continue on this road towards Bracknell going stright over the Coral Reef round-a-bout, straight thorugh the lights at the Sainsbury round-a-bout, and straight on at the Sports Centre round-a-bout.
At the next round-a-bout a Harvester (well I think it's still a Harvester) called the Horse and Groom should be on your right. Take the third exit towards the town centre.
At the next round-a-bout take the first exit which will take you down the hill past the railway station on your left.
At the end follw the road as it bears round to the left. You should be able to see The Point on the left.
At the next round-a-bout take the third exit and then the second exit at the next round-about. You should now be on Binfield Road.
Follow the road to the end where you will need to take the first exit at the round-a-bout.
At the next round-a-bout take the second exit. If you've got it right you should pass a rather sizeable house on your left (apparently owned by the Sultan of Brunei but I've never seen him pop into the pub for a drink).
At the junction just after this turn left (this is Forest Road).
Go over the hump back bridge (on coming traffic has right of way) and then you should be able to see the Stag in front of you.
Once you get there - regardless of which direction you come from:
When you get to the pub park your car, come inside, and have a drink. Chances are you'll need it after negotiating all those round-a-bouts. ;D ;D

Once again, I'm so sorry I can't be there........family and all that!!!!! >:(
I truly take my hat off to you. Although you may want to keep one on for a while!!! ;)
I hope the Team JPC/Tropicoma ticket has helped in some small way towards the grand total. I'm sure that a large (A3+) photo of the end of the event, statement of cause, and a large collection pot carried around at Le Mans, especially at the poo bar on Saturday night when we are all pissed, will help to bolster the amount raised even further.
Good Luck!!! And Well Done!!!! xx

Doris, best of luck for tonight, have a great evening and as you say, have a pint or two for us that can't attend.
Well done.

Well, has the deed been done? Where's the evidence?
Due to searches on ebay for the Tropicoma recipe, I've bought 3 Le Mans DVDs at a good price, so I'll lob it bit more in once I can understand how it works.
Well done

The proof, featuring celebrity crimper Steve Zarse.
Well done Doris
-
Well done Doris, appologoies for not recognising Mr Zarse, must have been the lack of Gimp mask and Tee shirt - but you are right, Binfield is not ready for that (but then is any where?).
Keep your hat on.

A small speech and a huge THANK YOU!!! ;D ;D ;D
I have been truly astonished by the generosity you have all shown in helping me raise money for Cancer Research. From the individual donations, to the auctions on E-Bay, to the contributions that will come from the car stickers and other events planned for LM. I cannot say ‘Thank You’ enough.
Saturday night was a lot of fun. I managed to keep the nerves at bay by having so much to do during the day that I had no time to think about what was going to happen later that evening. They only started to kick in when I was sitting at home waiting for my lift to the pub.
It was great to see those of you who could make it. For those of you who couldn’t there is a picture storyboard of events unfolding at
http://public.fotki.com/steveandceline/doris
Am also hoping to get the video edited and on the web soon.
Lorry - The locks are currently at home on the dining table waiting for me to put them on E-Bay.
JPC – No Dutch Courage needed. Just a bit of Russian Vodka. ;)

75 quid? :o That's great! ;D ;D
You can either give it online as the web page is open for donations until the end of this month, or you can send me a cheque (make it payable to cancer research uk). I'm guessing you still have my address.
That leaves just 200 quid before we hit 5k. One last push at LM should do it. :D

I have told Robbo that all profit could go to charity, maybe the two of you can agree on a good one. Don't know if it would be too late for Doris' charity :-\

I nearly did choke last year Phil. :o Randy had bought in some Becks especially for us Europeans, only for me to point outto him that he had bought Becks Alcahol Free!!! ::) Still, at least half of them had gone without anyone else noticing so as far as a drink for if you are driving is concerned it sounds like it's better than the other alcahol free beers that taste totally different to anything we would normally refer to as beer or lager.

Doris, in the rolling cooler last year we had a bottle of gin (plus tonic) and a bottle of JD - so vodka should be do-able ;)
