Paddy and I have been discussing getting together to hire a huge, silent running generator for Le Mans this year between our groups. Firstly, the more power you have, the cheaper it is per kW, secondly, the larger genny's are diesel so cheaper to run, and thirdly they are so quiet when compared to the smaller (650W - 2.1kW) ones that you can leave them running 24/7 so fridges/freezers etc can be run all night without disturbing your neighbours. Paddy went to see one yesterday and when he coughed it was louder than the generator.

One option is to go for a 10kVA one between us, or another option is to get a 30kVA one and offer the chance for others to "tap in" to it.

So, is anyone interested in joining in on the share of a huge power supply?

We worked out that last year our 2.1kW genny went through between 15 and 20 Euros of Petrol per day, plus of course purchase or rental cost. So we were thinking of a contribution equal to this per day, saving others the need to buy ro rent a genny, or indeed the need to bring one down to Le Mans at all, taking up valuable booze space on the way back!!

Naturally we would all need to be camping in the same area, but then a lot of us do already anyway!

If anyone is interested, please let Paddy or I know as soon as possible, indicating when you arrive on site/depart so that we can manage how much power we would need. We can always get an even bigger generator if necessary. You would need to provide your own long extension cable to get the power to your own pitches.
-
Any chance of an extension cable running to HA? :o

-

I'd be interested, Mark.  My 'van is a continental one and a lot of things are mains-driven.  Although I've put a battery in it, it only gives me half the lights etc.

 Wouldn't be a heavy load.

Are you aiming to pitch in more or less the same area this year?  I intend to - close to the track, close to the Tropicoma tap and close to Paddy's entertainment!!  I'll be there either Sunday or Monday.

 Cheers

 Del

Paddy went to see one yesterday and when he coughed it was louder than the generator. It's basically comparable to a truck running stationary. Nice, quiet and monotone.

So, is anyone interested in joining in on the share of a huge power supply? We need at least six 'takers' to make it interesting for us, otherwise that noisy bugger from last year will be cheaper for us.

Our intention is to make it more quiet and cheaper for everyone. Now where's mr. Toad? :D

That's the current plan Delboy, assuming we get there before anyone else nabs it of course!

				MArk, PAddy

 I'd be interedted.

We were looking at a 3 KVA silent like last year, but space is an issue fortransport this year.

What £££ are we looking at ?
-
We go where we are because of the elecricity.  I can't see the others will want to change, as we've got quite used to the area

-
What £££ are we looking at ? Should be £10,- maximum a day, which means it should be less than the daily petrol bill - and of course the hassle and dangerous handling of petrol is out of the way. Diesel tank on the generator is big enough to be having to fill it up once every two days.
We're working on Dutch Red Diesel (no roadtax included), which should be cheaper for the first four full days.

Better chance of crop circles on Beausejour :)

Where we camp your're lucky to get anything to grow as the ground is so bl**dy barren and hard.  Its like an industrial waste tip.

Oh dear, does that mean we will even closer to 1200w of RFH music power - more beer and Tropicoma then!

 No.................LangTall has upgraded for this year!!!!   :o :o :o
-
Yep I did. But that's a general 5.1 surround, and will defenitly blast your ears of in a normal livingroom, but I'm not sure whether it will have the same effect when we play a nice movie in open air ;) But it will be a nice thing to test. ;D

For music power I just bring some more speakers, as the amp I brought las year (which was only 800 watts IRW, not 1200) was still not running out full ;)

And for some tropicoma the volume rate is negotiable. :P

Paddy, no probs in getting cosy, just reporting on the state of the ground, I may even bring some astro turff along with plastic flowers to make homely for you. xxxx
-
as long as those flowers are orange tulips ;D

-
To bring this pack on topic  ;D

We'll be on MB but survive without electricity (although if somone will let me come vist and use their electricity for my hairdryer a couple of times I'd be very happy!!).

Plus - I wouldn't want to be THAT close to Paddy and the rest of DfH!!
-
Well thanx al lot Piglet. :( Do we scare you that much??

-
Well thanx al lot Piglet. :( Do we scare you that much??

 ;D  Just a little  ;D

I just don't fancy being too close to your speakers! ;D   We spent 2003 alongside some Danes on Houx and their music was so loud ALL nigh that the ground was vibrating under me as I tried to sleep!!

I have developed that art of sleeping in ear defenders so it's not so much of a problem now!  ;D
-
We were right next to DFH last year, No problems i dont think ?

Although the local brew's helped me sleep most nights !
-
I'm sure someone on this site sells generators for a living, he was discussing how good Honda's are.

Its a good idea, but like the others who, are also on the ACO MB waiting and waiting waiting list, we may need a long extension lead.
-
I'm not worried. Got an address where I can probably leave things untill two weeks prior to Le Mans. For the second year running the guy told me in January I was bl00dy early with my booking for June - and to remind him later in the year.

TeamJPC and us can go three ways:
 - 30kVA with possibility to please others as well
- 15kVA just for our two teams
- rent that noisy f*cker again from last year and have our own power support
Bottom one is cheapest, middle one is most expensive, so top one is preferrable :)
-
Paddy, JPC - I am sure the flying baguettes would take you up on this, we take a small 1.5KVA genny but were planning to upgrade it this year. If we can get a spot close to you guys then we would be happy to contribute. Keep me informed please.

30kva seems very big, I've been to building sites which have used smaller generators than this. At this size make sure it is super silenced, otherwise you might be suprised by the noice.

What about hiring a unit at Le Mans, there are some hire companies down there, one that i remember is Loxam, they hire access platforms and general plant. The only problem is the cost - hire, transport, insurance. Anybody work for Loxam or HSS in the UK?

-
I'm not worried. Got an address where I can probably leave things untill two weeks prior to Le Mans.
Could be mine in my garage between 2 JPC (empty) fridges !!!

Ah, but in 19 weeks time they will be very full!!!  ;D

Crikey, when you say it like that, 19 weeks, it doesn't sound that far away does it!!!

19 weeks?  Is that all it is ?
I better get the curry made
-
According to my calculations 30 kVa is about 24000 watts (about 0.8 per 1kVA). Going of my 'normal' site of 1 fridge and a few lights which runs of my 650W genny, that means you have enough to power nearly 37 pitches. I realise that the JPC and DFH will use a bit more than the average pitch, but thats a lot of electricity. What are you planning this year. Are the Flying Baguettes having a 'Pink Floyd' light show? A Mira power shower would be nice.

-
Wow! it looks like there's going to be Watts to spare on MB then.
I don't see why it should go to waste though, I'll bring along some crocodile clips and a generous length of flex. Does anyone have a nice metal chair and some leather straps that they could bring? Some orange overalls would be nice too! All we'll have to do then is find someone who we suspect of having a few secrets,  - and if I may confide in you, the bloke in the tent two pitches up from me looked well dodgy, I'm sure he'd tell us a few things  given a chance. And about 400 volts.
 H
-
What a coincidence! After the run-away success of last year's bondage theme, this time Team Zarse are doing the Commer out in a Torture Chamber stylee.

And if we rent the big genny, I think there would surplus juice, so to speak, for a few of these:

A Mira power shower would be nice.

We have a cunning design plan for a battery operated shower this year involving a fold up Ikea washing basket!!   ;D

Pray God it's sunny as the water heating is all solar powered!   The fall back position of heating water on the stove will require lots of petrol!   ::)

In last year’s heat, the truck innertube worked ok, but the most effective water heater was a seventy five foot hose, buy the time it reached the pump and the shower it was nice and warm. Now started work on the Mk2 version and a tent for the girlie's dignity :o .

We have a similar plan that involves a long hose pipe and a number of solar shower bags on the roofbox of the car.   Plus the fold up washing basket lined with a rubble sack to mix the water to the required temperature!!!  This (we hope) avoids having 75ft of scalding hot water followed by a cold shock!!!

I'm passing on the modesty tent - we take enough crap as it is!  I'm the only girl in our group and I'll cope - I was a Girl Guide!!!

I apparently shocked the girlfriend of one of our group last year by shaving my legs with a ladyshave in the gazebo!!!   The other option was using the buzzing ladyshave in the tent and I KNEW how many comments I'd get about what kind of a device I was using so thought I might as well be out in the open!!

I'm not bothered about washing but really needed to cool off last year when it was so hot so hopefully we'll have something that works!

We discussed this matter already, DfH will provide the screen, beamer and soundsystem, JPC will deliver a nice movie to be shown. ;D

Here is a company that appears to hire generators in France. The best solution would be for someone to deliver on the Monday and set it up for us.

Here is a company that appears to hire generators in France. The best solution would be for someone to deliver on the Monday and set it up for us.

Piglet, to get things straight, you're not the one who came complaining about our movie last year's wednesdayevening right?

Martin, everyone is welcome to watch....................you just wouldn't want to watch the film that was shown last year!  ::)

Sure smokie, for the afternoon sessions we could do that. When it's past your bedtime, we'll see what JPC can provide besides Tropicoma. ;D

Team JPC already ahve someone doing research into the subject. By June he should have a suitable collection!

I always enjoy George of the Jungle, or one of the Harry Potters.

Was that the kind of thing you had in mind?  :)

Smokie, i'm assuming you mean watch the proper film, as opposed to some perverse remake

That could be a dutch parody. ;D

The idea of the brits supplying porn to the dutch does seem a little like selling ice to eskimos!!

I wholeheartedly agree Piglet. But after last year's showing I'd deem it a necessity!!!
-
What's all the big fuss about watching porn, you'd think no-one had ever seen it before!

Now I can't help thinking that we've got a large group of virile young men (okay some a little mature) and a good sprinkling of lovely ladies - we should be making porn   :-* :-* :-*

Then we could sell it on MB and buy more Tropicoma. I have a camcorder and for the sake of deceny I should definitely be behind it!

Ah well, that movie was brought by someone who lives in Groningen. We can call that hardly The Netherlands, and the inhabitants are a rare species too. :D

To be perfectly honest I can't remember seeing that particular film, it obviously has had an affect/effect on those that did see it.  Any chance of bringing it along for a special screening, so I can make my own mind up
