Phil,

I know a lot about snake oil.

I have two cupboards full, one I sell, the other is what I've bought.

Of course now we live half in the digital world I have a bunch of snake oil apps - the last was a 24h guide that I bought and downloaded.

Of course Canadian Snake Oil might just be what I've been looking for but didn't know it...  Tongue Tongue

I run/own a car owner's forum (for my sins).

This question raises its head frequently.

The advice from technicians who work on modern Ford diesel engines is don't!

Or to do Spa with a bit more style fly Easyjet from Gatwick to Luxembourg.  This year it cost us £45.90 each return!

Hotel rooms in Luxembourg city are cheap on Friday & Saturday night as they make their money the rest of the week due to the EU Commission and all of the big European HQ's based in the town.

Plenty of places to eat & drink and prices are ok.

Hire a (small) car for the day and drive up through the beautiful Ardennes to Spa.  It's about 130 km.

Back to Lux on Saturday night after the race and then catch the flight home on Sunday afternoon.

Did we decide that we couldn't turn the guide into an app?  Is there a copyright issue?

I bought the Le Mans 24h by Robert Bech from the Apple Store

This has a fraction of the information in the guide, in fact probably about 4 pages worth, but no more.

We could do a lot better with only a little effort.

Thoughts and views?

Aricus

That might depend on what you include.  If, for example, there was information/data lifted from the ACO's website then yes there's a copyright issue.

But if we are simply seeking to digitise our own collective wisdom then I suspect that there's no issue.

Against any possible revenue stream we need to keep an eye on costs, unless we have some clever souls who do this sort of thing for a living?

I have paid for and downloaded the last few year's of The Guide.  My only criticism is that it's a very large document due, I guess, to the fantastic photos that are inserted.

As a result I wonder if there could be a "lite" version of the guide that trims down the size of the PDF to something more manageable?  I'm no techno expert but suspect that if the photos are of a lower resolution or even if they are omitted from the "lite" version then the file will be that much smaller?

Rusty where are you?

Landman thank you for this, cheers

I'm hooked and now I want to tell Russ to put me in for one in XL, it's another fine classic

I wish I could get that facething to work for me  but it doesn't like me any more than I like it   Embarrassed

                Sad

I've let Russ know that you're interested and suggested that he takes a look at this thread so he can discuss t-shirts with you direct.

Cheers,

Paul.

First draft of The Brethren's 2016 t-shirt as posted on Facebook (re-posted here with Rusty's knowledge & permission)

Rusty suggests replying to this thread or better still send him a PM

Thanks for the info.  I've got a few quotes which vary but the materials vary too.

If you actually want Real Wood doors then it's ££££.

I think I might skimp and use the money on fun.

Any views on underfloor heating?

Aricus

Electric or wet?

Wet

Complicated in so far as they take a lot of power out of the central heating system.  You should check that the existing boiler is up to the job.

I forget the exact extra over cost required to fit a wet u/f system in one of my previous employers houses but I don't think you get much change out of £10,000.

They weren't all that popular with purchasers, the guys speccing the systems and the installers/builders.

They take a while to heat up and i have also seen mention of ground source heat pumps.

Had electric u/f heating in a bathroom and that worked well.  Nice to have warm feet in winter!

If Rebellion made it on to the podium then I'd actually stay after the race & join the throng on the track.

The only known unknown is the weather but if there is a repeat of last year's storm then can I join you in your drinks tent again please?

So would I, they would deserve the biggest cheer of the weekend.

That storm was amazing, saw it roll in, looked like black ink rolling over a sheet of glass. Very spooky!
What day was that? What drinks tent?  Embarrassed

The mystery fast lap, can't remember the time, but is was very fast compared to the rest of GTpro. Timing glitch or driver forgetting he was supposed to be sand bagging. Trying to avoid a BOP penalty? We shall see, but not I suspect till Wednesday 10 pm.

Your personal drinks tent/gay-zebra.

It was Thursday night/Friday morning.  IIRC all hell let loose at 2am for a good hour.

As you say we'll find out on the 15th of June.

It seems like all 3 manufacturers are pushing their cars and technology to the limit this year. LM won't be 24 sprintraces of an hour as in the past years, it will be a race of "last man standing", expect lots of troubles and reliability issues. We're in for a classic !

Totally agree, think it will be a nail biting race.
Looking forward to the test weekend when the low downforce kit gets rolled out.
If the non factory LMP1's have trouble free races, and the big boys don't, I think they could be in the running for a podium as well. Considering the commitment that Rebellion have shown over the years it would be great to see them get a good result.

The other question that remains to be answered is 'are Ford sand bagging?'
The cars seem to cruise around under the radar a bit, but, as one commentator pointed out, rarely have trouble overtaking when they do catch up a car. There is also the mystery of the fast lap that was recorded at one point during the Spa weekend. Timing glitch or their real pace?

The anticipation is building, hoping the weather is kind!
Can't wait for LM week!

If Rebellion made it on to the podium then I'd actually stay after the race & join the throng on the track.

The Ford's still sound weird/rough to me and if they were sandbagging then I think that they'd have put in a slightly better performance.  Their advantage will be in numbers and consequently reliability issues with others would see them on the podium.  A podium with no Fezza's would please me  Tongue

I'm sure that I saw a local WiFi on Houx last year - did anyone use it?

Did one of the corporate campsites have their own wifi I wonder?

Does anyone know anyone staying at Stalagluft IV on BN?
They might have wifi.  Wink

If I did know anyone camping there then I would not admit it publicly!  Grin

FB is killing forums but forums I prefer as it does keep (Sod it I shall be blunt) the retards away. FB the idiots have a voice and some of the things I read are awful. Give me a forum all day long.

Would agree with you there Kev, belong to another forum which has a FB offshoot.
The quality of the forum posts is on a level far above the FB ones.

I think I know the one you refer to!

In terms of The Brethren t-shirt then Rusty posted up the 1st draft of this year's design (Mosquito's) on FB last night.

OK! So slightly off topic, but I have to get a new kitchen do to my new extension (now in month Cool.

Does anyone have any experience with new kitchens or wooden work surfaces - Howdens, Magnet, John Lewis, or am I solely afflicted?

Aricus

Had a Magnet kitchen fitted Aug 2012 and very pleased.

The guys who fit them are not Magnet employees but "trusted" sub-contractors and I guess therefore that you are at the mercy of who is available at the time.

Ours was fitted by a company based locally to us in North Baddesley and he was very good.
