Last year the featured marque was supposed to be MG. However, with the new Pistoheads parking area, it has become a lot less about classics and much more about exotica, which really isn't my bag. Previous British marques have included Corvette and Delahay. It's also become way more expensive to eat and drink there.
Agree with Perdu and MG Mark that it's become a victim of its own success. The traffic was so bad coming out last year that I set off in the opposite direction to Le Mans and let the sat-nav take me back cross country. You also get caught up with the traffic from the Friday late arrivals.
Yes I think that Mulsanne will be de rigueur for 2016

I remember it before it became a formal event - in the absence of the motorway,  you had to drive through the village. Villagers were at the traffic lights halfway down the hill and, if you were driving something classic and British, you got waved over and directed to the hall they hold it in now, where you got given a cup of tea in recognition of a long journey. Result - driver refreshment and villagers got to see nice cars close up. IIRC, it was open on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Do you remember Beaumont s Sarthe.  There's an odd junction in the middle, with a few cafes, and there'd be a D type or two, and a few other British classics parked up, but nowhere for the rest of us to stop.

St Saturnin is a complete roadblock.  Last year I went on the bypass and came in the other way, and gained 10 minutes on some friends.  I've never really liked the look of the food or the price of the beer.  They get a good selection of cars, but I've seen them all before.  And I came out the back way and used the satnav too

Can't find anything on Mulsanne, except la 32ème édition du Festival de l'Accordéon, salle Edith Piaf.  Sound like some form of torture

Remember Beaumont well, as described. Nice stuff parked up and chaps on the cafe terrace overlooking the junction. There would always be something nice or funny there, D-Types/Astons, or the Gulf-liveried Reliant Robins in latter years!

The newish motorway from Rouen is convenient, but we still take the old N138 route to/from Le Mans from about Sees, just for a bit of variety, the history of it, and for pre-motorway times sake. Still nice to do, although the villages that used to be full of people waving on the way back have virtually nobody out on the streets now.

If you've been down the Mulsanne a few times there is often a wooden horse on the right. In that little line of buildings is a tyre shop, a saddler etc, and a bar. It's changed its name a few times and I can't remember it, but it has an enormous range of beer,  If the road isn't closed could that be what you are looking for?  Very big inside being an old industrial unit.
