there is no easy answer, but I can say that as time goes by it does get easier as they tend to get used to the fact that come LM you will be there .

you could try the old white lie trick and say the ferries were booked on friday and wed was the only one you could get.

It was was one of the things i first told my wife that i go to Le Mans every year.
In 1998 when we got married, the wedding was 3 weeks before Le Mans, then the ACO moved it back a week because of a clash with the world cup. My thought was i would miss it due to 2 week honeymoon. With no pressure from me ,my good lady said we would go on a 10 day honeymoon so i could get back for the race.
Her only regret is when 2 Le Manners gather we always talk shop ;D
Never argue with an idiot, they'll only drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Redid the inside of the utility room over the weekend, she's a sort of pleased with it :-\
(big improvement, but she has to do all the cupboard reorganising - and hates that >:()

I also get the question, if it is a 24 hour race, why do you go for a full week?

I never even try to explain, I just disappear for a week!!

I go for two weeks out for prequal then stay over until the race!

Mrs S is always glad to see the back of me for a while. She gets a break from the night time snoring and farting for a week.

The best way is to miss a year, no- stay with me here, miss a year, that week will be intolerable for her. She'll be sending you off to planning meetings, dragging you around camping shops all May and ordering your tickets from the ACO for the rest of your days!
I missed the RAC for the first time in 16 years in 1999 and narrowly avoided divorce, now any race or rally, any trip, no probs. ;D ;D ;D
