LAP TOP
« on: February 11, 2007, 03:03:13 pm »
OK - He's a good one.

My old laptop is broken, well it was broken but now it's completely knackard as I have taken it apart - "COMPLETELY"  ;D  I did'nt know there was so many bits in a pc.

The question I want to know - If/When I put it back together will it work?

My family have total confidence in me - They are saving for a new one.

If you're going through hell, keep going.

Hi,

Iknow I have a bit of a rep for cooking things.  However, I may in this case be able to help in a genuive sort of way.  No promises though.

I should be able to rescue the data if nothing else.

I vote we let Tom recover the data from the HDD and then we microwave it!!  ;D

Tom, have you tried colour inkjet cartridges yet?? As you normally have to stop using them because one of the three colours runs out there should still be enough fluid to build up some pressure for a colourful explosion!!  :o

It must be time to start looking eBay for a new microwave. Wonder if we can get one for £1 again?  :)

Do you watch Brainiac. They put various things in microwaves. An acetalene balloon with a spoon to spark it worked well :o
Never argue with an idiot, they'll only drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Well if the drive is good Microwaving it would secure the data from the idenitity thieves.   ;D

No I've never tried it.
The copper contacts would be quite pretty too.  :D  They are certainly worth a go.

The freecycle site may do even better deals.   8)

If memory serves correctly there's not much point microwaving a lap top.  Tom tried one year and the results were somewhat disappointing.  Hitting the thing with a slegehammer and then getting a recovery truck to drive over it was much more fun.   ;D ;D ;D

Ironically, the company I work for make Rugged Laptops and Tablet PC's for the defence industry (as welll as other things) One of the tests we carry out is to drop one from the top of the office roof (8 metres, same height as the door on a Herc apparently) and then drive over it with a Land Rover. And it still works!!!!!  ;D

Well the none rugged one in the slide show above worked just as well after as it did before.

I'm not supprised you rugged one workd after the treatment.   I would however be supprised if the OS survived and  didn't need reloading.  Unless of course your running Linux.  ;D ;D ;D ;D

Nope, Windows!! And yes, it did still work!!!  :)

We're currently working on a model that will have a solid state HDD and the whole unit is being built to withstand 70G's!!!!  :o

Update

Got my bits for the laptop today.

Now all I have to do is solder them in to place and then put it back together and hey presto - It will be working!

So simple!

By the way, how do you use a solder iron? is it like a blow tourch?

If you're going through hell, keep going.
