Cost of diesel

We're up to £1.25.9 for diesel in some parts of south west scotland. Its getting bl#ody silly now and im in a rural village and need my car most days.

Mike, are you seeing much panic buying around your way now they've shut down Grangemouth?

No panic buying here yet. I asked in the garage this morning if they were expecting any problems and they think it will be the middle of next week before we struggle for petrol.

They say the problem isn't really the workforce being on strike for a couple of days but the fact that it takes ages to get the refinary going again after its been shut down.

Methinks the panic buying bit is more about people reacting to scaremongering in the press. From what I understand measures had been put in place to cover any potential shortfall in supplies by importing and distributing from elsewhere whilst the industrial action had it's effect on Grangemouth output.

We've been told this week that due to the rising cost of fuel that we've to try and manage our use of the vans.

So no more runs to the bakers,shops or homers done at night

Just to add a few hot facts.

Here became fuel same price than unleaded, around 1.45/1.50 euro per litre (even more if you buy it on motorways...)

Sorry i keep posting about this but my local garage is really kicking the arse out of it now

I'v been driving for 6 years now and when i was 17 fuel was 74p a litre

That makes me feel very old, when I was 17 it was 35p a gallon.

£1.37 for diesel is really taking the piss, it's only? £1.27 in our local Shell garage and we reckon the petrol stations in Windsor are always on the expensive side.

H** ***D my trusty Morris 1100 had a 8 gallon tank, cost £2.80 to fill her up from empty.

I was 13 when £sd bit the dust, little bit before drinking and petrol came into the equation, although I regret not before the dreaded weed was discovered.

Do have fond memories of 10 bob notes though, usually in birthday cards from aged Aunts. You could buy some really good Airfix kits for that sort of money.

your right, I doubt very much if anything will be done because Labour have bankrupted us again and the extra tax revenue that comes as a percentage on petrol is a godsend to Brown and the Badger looking one and will be used to bolster the books.

During the last episode, the treasury temporarily suspended the petroleum tax percentage until crude returned to about $40 a barrel.

I think we are going to have to lump it, the next worry is if the government still intend to penalise us for having 'inefficient' vehicles, I mean the old ones.

The Tories brought in the 25yr rule on VED, NewLabTaliban stopped it at 1973. How many cars 25yrs old are still running? OK I have a 35yro motor and I pay £185 VED.

I also have a 12 yro 4ltr at £185 per year.

ANSWER:- DON'T BUY NEW CARS.

We pay Tax and VaT by the amount of fuel we use, that should be the end of it. But I think us Brits still resort to the old 'Stiff Upper Lip' syndrome and put up with it.
