Sunday getaway

Hi all,

Making my first trip this year and just about to book the return Eurotunnel crossing.  Where i need some advice is getting away from the circuit after the race.

I'm camping on Houx and need to allow sufficient time on top of the 4-5 hours journey time back to Calais. Can anyone give an idea how long it takes to ge off ste post race assunimng i'm all packed up ready to go.

I don't know what it is like on the Sunday after the race, but there is the normal hours queue to pay at the toll booth near Rouen. You need to come of before that exit. After queue for the same toll for 2 year running and missing our ferry and having to repay for the return journey we now take an exit before that one. I am sure someone will come along and help you more.

It's really a bit of an it depends type of answer.  Typically getting out of the vicinity of the Circuit is not too bad. But as bgeorge104 points out the bottle necks occur other places.

Last year was my 1st time at Le Mans.

After the race finished I went down on to the track and stayed there for a while.

I eventually made it back to Bleu Nord around 4pm, possibly a bit later.

I had every intention of hanging around until 8pm to let the traffic abate and to waste a bit of time as my ferry was due to leave Dieppe at 00:30.

Then it started to rain!

So I quickly packed up and left the site around 5pm.

From BN I had to go west to Arnage, then followed sat nav back to the A28.

No queuing or delays anywhere on the west side of Le Mans.

Had always intended to avoid the junction of the A28/A13, but critical fuel dictated that I leave the A28 at the junction before [D124/Boissey-le-Chatel].

I then followed the D124 east, D438/N138 and rejoined the A13.

There was little/no traffic on these roads.

Despite taking "the scenic route" and stopping for fuel I was still in Dieppe at 20:30, I was also sticking to the speed limit alomg the A28 due to frequent radar traps.

Friday last year

No, won't be there this year - I'll be in the States from 11 June to 6 July

In 2007 I left a bit before the end and sat on LM outskirts listening to the end on the radio. No delays, but it's not quite the same as being there (although it was mostly under yellow flag IIRC due to rain)

You could still do the Monday to Wednesday then Smokie - thats the best bit of the week before the unwashed masses arrive and it gets all rowdy.

We now leave Sunday morning (theres only so many times you can watch the end of the race) to get the 12.30 quick boat from Caen.  Generally find the roads are deserted hence journey time of well below 2 hours to Caen.
