Invest wisely young Skywalker, in solidly engineered vehicles that people will always have a need for. The Commer cost £320 in 2001 and has tripled in value in that time. The Fergie was £730 and IMO is better than money in the bank, if it's looked after will only go up.

a fool and his money are easily parted - hence i bought my 8th mk3 Astra  ::)

there both pritty things and Fergie reminds me of the war for some strange reason

Maybe mate, but I would absolutely kill for the set of headlights on the rusty one!

Less so the pair of headlights on the rusty one in Smokie's photos.

The rusty one is the younger of the pair (1956 diesel), the other is a very early 1947 (serial no. TE 926) petrol (Continental Z120).

Jeepers, that's an early one.  :) Serial numbers started at 1 in 1946 and went up to 517651 when peoduction neded in 1956. So it's the 926th they made.

Mines is 38594, it's a 1948 TEA built as a petrol only engine, but had a period TVO conversion fitted at some time so runs on central heating burning oil blended with petrol (cheaper!).

Do you know the serial number of the diesel? It'll start TEF... I guess it's probably one of the very last they made before the 35 was introduced.

I still get calls on a regular basis for engine parts for these tractors.
I can still get most of the internal engine parts for the gas or diesel.

Andy, you know far too much about these.
I would suggest some sort of hobby.

Seems we gone off thread here, but who cares?

Great to see those fergie pics including the sets of 'lungs' on the non metalic versions.

I used to drive a red 35 from the age of 12 progressing to a 65 at 14 and then a Fordson at 16 on my uncle's farm in the Black Mountains.

Prefered the 35 and if I can get a small farm/smallholding (yes we are thinking about it) I will get one.

Went to a Ploughing Match on BH, for this you really want a pair of 'Shires', hard work but satisfying and creates a need for rare BBQ steak. Trouble is, not very efficient speed wise.

This method of ploughing also helps the veg's and the roses ;D

Look at this ad - from the New York Times of March 24 1912! It is amazing to look at how many companies were using Commers. And why didn’t these companies buy American trucks? In 1912, there were 461 registered truck brands in America. One of the greatest coincidences, in light of future developments is the fact that the Dodge Motor Company used Commers!



I just find this quite amazing for the times. Do truck manufacturers give seven year guarantees today?
