And only today, journeying between Bristol and High Wycombe did I spy an Austin J2 Paralanian bowling along the M4 at a steady, if unspectacular, 50mph and lovely she looked too.

Hi Mark,
As an aside: On my way home from work as I pulled onto the highway I was beside a beautiful Red MGA with cream wire wheels thundering along at 110kph fortunately so was the trailer it was on  ;D The thunder was coming from the Chevy pick up ::) I'll get my hat
 Phil

Lovely - and nice to hear that the sound of thunder moved your soul as it should - but a shame that the four-pot was on a trailer and not providing the backing track on the road!

Hard though the parts may be to find, they will be out there somewhere - search and ye shall find....

MG Mark

They're probably in some farmer's shed over here.  Classic vehicles of all descriptions all over the place, and Andy, IIRC you put something on here a fair while back about Commers in NZ so if the parts are indeed anywhere they may be on this side of the world.

Aside from that I am, as always, in awe of your literary abilities and command of the English language.

Ooops i missed this post... probably too busy searching for bits.

Happily I have all the bits needed to do the repairs. Regretably the only thing I have found by poking around underneath her is advanced tinworm on the forward lower valance attaching to the chassis rails. A definite MOT fail... so unfortunately it looks like a no-show for the Commer this year. I'm going to plug it up with underseal and have a crack at the test but he'd have to be an idiot not to spot the mahoosive holes in the metal.

And after the work I've put in it's pretty disappoining for me. So I've taken my old Subaru Forester off SORN and got her back on the road. Oh well better luck next year...  >:( :(

I wouldn't sit there if I were you, it's still a bit wet.

They're not allowed to have a poke about are they? Surely undeerseal, newspapers, old socks, and dried weetabix will win the day?
If I had all the money I've ever spent on drink, I think on balance, I'd probably spend it on drink.

Who on earth promised T-shirts?  We have struggled to even sort our own t-shirts, let alone anyone elses!

Bob I was also "planning" on bring you a pair of home grown pork chops for your BBQ but it looks like that will fall through too  >:(

PS and I spoke to my butcher and there's only enough home cured bacon for us so you'll have to do without again!  ;)

I have a very big hammer, and a chopping knife if you need a hand with those chops Andy - so they're a little small - they'll be fine!

Looks like you have pixxed on your chips there Bob, now nothing to eat at all.

I sure you will fall back in to the fold before the big event, chin up and take a few packed lunches - just in case.  ;D

Andy,

Good news on getting the bits.  Metal exhaust repair tape over the tinworm and underseal over the top is the answer.

Then the Commer shall ride again to Le Mans........

I agree with mark - I had a VW Beetle in my younger years - that thing was patched up with everything from newspaper covered in fibreglass, to exhaust tape, and chemical metal......

I'm sure we can fashion SOMETHING to get it through?? :)
