My only experience of train travel in the US is from Cincinnati to Chicago about twenty-five years ago, it was comfortable but not exactly the most scenic ride, mostly corn & cows.
Read that the race is very close to being sold out for the first time in over twenty years, that's 235,000 seats!  Throw in the infield crowd and probably looking at around 300,000 to 350,000 for raceday.  Not the half a million they used to get in the good old days, but damn close.
Fax

I was there a few weekends ago, and did the Circuit Tour and a visit to the Museum. The tour guides expect about 400,000 this year, and you can still buy infield tickets on the day. They did indicate that all the seats are sold, but they were still encouraging people to turn up on the day.
It was an awesome tour, and well worth the 2 hour drive from my Hotel in Mason, OH.

In Mason Cobra?  Your in my neck of the woods, we live on the east side of Cincinnati.  Mason has some good watering holes, hope you were able to find them, as well as the Kings Island amusement park, and the Lindner Tennis Center.
The museum at IMS is pretty awesome.  What's in storage in the basement is as impressive as what's on display upstairs.  They rotate many the cars on display, so what you see now, may be different from what's on the floor eight month's from now.  There's also a great photo studio on the second floor, you can find a photo of virtually any driver, or car that's ever turned a lap at the place.

No - some of his working savings and his Grandad died early this year, so I think he is blowing his inheritance on the flight - so some thinking nce to remember him with

& I will pick up the cost of his beers in USA (which will be almost as big)  Roll Eyes

Hi all,

a quick question to our US friends: The schedule mentions a IPL 500 Festival Parade from 12:00pm - 01:30pm in Downtown Indianapolis for Saturday 28th May but I couldn't find further details. Anyone knows the route of this parade and how best to get there from the track when staying on lot 1C? Is it worth to go there?

Hi Werner,
I haven't been to the parade since I was a kid, but it always draws a big crowd in downtown Indy.
I found the 500 festival parade route here http://www.500festival.com/node/162.
Might be worth taking a drive over from the speedway.  Its a short drive from the track to downtown. There are several routes you can take to the parade route, but the easest is to take 16th east, past Methodist Hospital to Meridian, and then turn right (south).  https://www.google.com/maps/search/indianapolis+motor+speedway/data=!4m2!2m1!4b1?sa=X&hl=en&dg=dbrw&newdg=1
There's a lot of stuff to do downtown over race week, lots of parties, and there's a big memorabilia show, it used to be at the Indianapolis convention center, but I think it moved to a new location.

Hi Fax,

thanks a lot, that's first class information and advice!
BTW: Fax, Chris 24, Dirk-Jan, Neil, is there any way we could catch up on Friday or Saturday evening for a couple of cold one's? Any suggestions for a time/location? Campsite or bar nearby?
